Liminal — Interior States

Liminal is a contemporary abstract painting from my Interior States collection, a body of work exploring the relationship between physical space and the interior self. The title comes from limen, the Latin word for “threshold,” and refers to the experience of existing between one place, feeling, or state and another.
In this work, I use architectural perspective, layered color, and atmospheric depth to draw the viewer inward toward a space that remains intentionally unresolved. I am interested in that place between architecture and atmosphere, presence and memory, and the external world and our private interior experience.
Throughout Interior States, I use perspective as a means of introspection. The illusion of depth creates an entry point, but what exists beyond that threshold is left to the viewer. I want the painting to become more than something we simply look at; I want it to feel like a space we can enter and, perhaps, recognize something of ourselves within.
As a work of contemporary abstract art, Liminal explores how color, spatial depth, and architectural abstraction can create both a visual and psychological experience. Its sense of depth and quiet ambiguity allows the painting to hold a strong presence within contemporary interiors, while still leaving room for an individual and deeply personal response.
