Origin — Interior States

In Origin, I explore the idea of an interior world before it can be fully defined. The layered, organic forms feel distinctly biological and female to me—soft, fluid and generative, as though something is forming, being held, or beginning to emerge. Bands of deep blue, turquoise, blush, ivory and yellow move around and through one another, creating boundaries that continually open into new spaces.
I also see the abstract suggestion of an oyster within the painting. An oyster builds slowly from within—filtering, collecting, releasing and responding to its environment. When something foreign enters its interior, layer upon layer accumulates around it until, over time, something entirely new is formed: a pearl. I am drawn to that process as a metaphor for our own interior lives. We absorb experiences, memories and emotions; we hold some, release others, and transform what remains.
As part of my Interior States collection, Origin considers the interior self not as something fixed, but as something continually being formed. Through organic abstraction, layered color, fluid contours and atmospheric depth, I wanted to create a contemporary abstract painting that feels both bodily and expansive—something that might suggest water, anatomy, landscape, or microscopic life without resolving completely into any of them.
For me, Origin is ultimately about creation from within: the slow accumulation of experience and the mysterious way something deeply internal can eventually take form and emerge into the world.
